At least one listing shows a Komodo boat trip in the wet season, though a listing is not proof it will sail, and sources disagree on how many do. One agency says most boats stop from January to March, while a booking platform lists a four-day departure in February 2027. Climate data shows February as the wettest month, with a windier stretch from mid-December to mid-March. Leave spare days.

Can you take a Komodo boat trip in the wet season?

Sources conflict, so we set them side by side. Seek Sophie, a booking agency, expects most boats to stay in from January to March, with only one-day speedboats running, and says even those may cancel. Against that, Liveaboard.com's entry for Bajak carries a 4D3N sailing dated 21 February 2027. So at least one boat has the period on its calendar, which falls short of proof that it will leave that day, in that weather. Maika Dive, an operator, says best overall conditions are typically April through November, which leaves December to March outside its preferred window without saying boats stop.

Even the season's edges are disputed, because each source defines a different thing. Weather Spark, working from modelled climate data, dates Labuan Bajo's wetter season from 11 November to 18 April. Seek Sophie's January to March is a claim about boats and not about rain. A 4-day trip in March could fall inside the wet season by one measure and outside the months when most boats run by another.

MonthClimate dataWhat sellers and listings say
DecemberWeather Spark: inside the wetter season; windier period starts 12 December; water averages 84 F, its warmestSeek Sophie: start of its best months for Manta Point
JanuaryWeather Spark: windier period; wind averages 6.1 mph at land levelSeek Sophie: most boats do not run
FebruaryWeather Spark: wettest month, 16.7 wet days. Sunheron: 21.15 rainy daysSeek Sophie: most boats do not run. Liveaboard.com: Bajak lists a 21 February 2027 departure
MarchWeather Spark: windier period ends 11 March; wetter season continues to 18 AprilSeek Sophie: most boats do not run; last of its best months for Manta Point

How wet and windy does it get?

Wet enough that planning for dry days would be a mistake, though the data has limits. Weather Spark counts 16.7 wet days in February, against 1.2 in August. Sunheron counts 21.15 rainy days in February, so the two services disagree, and neither is a forecast. Sunheron shows rainfall falling to 74.54 mm in May, which gives a sense of where the drying begins.

The wind figure needs a caution. January's 6.1 mph average comes from a land station and does not describe the sea. A gentle average can hide a rough afternoon, and an average tells you nothing about the swell on the day you need to cross a strait. So the climate table cannot answer whether a boat will be comfortable, or whether a given trip will run. Rain, wind and crowds by quarter gives the full comparison.

One figure works in the traveller's favour: Weather Spark puts water at an average of 84 F in December and 80 F in August, so warm water is not the concern here.

What do rough seas change on a boat?

Hello Flores, an operator, says rougher wet-season seas can slow boats or change daily plans. For a four-day trip, that may mean fewer stops, different stops, or a day reordered around shelter. It also suggests what to find out before you commit:

  • What happens to the money if the trip is cancelled before departure because of weather?
  • What happens if the boat turns back after the first day?
  • Which stops are the first to be dropped in rough conditions?
  • Who makes the call, and at what point am I told?

Terms differ by seller, and no general cancellation rule applies here. Read the terms in your offer, then compare them with what your travel insurance says about weather.

What happened in December 2025?

One event needs stating plainly. On 26 December 2025, the tourist boat KM Putri Sakinah sank in the Padar Strait. Reports put waves and engine failure at the centre but differ on which came first and on wave height: Indonesia's tourism ministry gives up to two metres, and Asia News Network gives two to three, at night. From that day, the ministry adds, port authorities stopped tourist boats, at first until 1 January 2026.

We do not treat the month as the cause. Authorities and press describe waves and engine failure, and one sinking does not establish a seasonal rate. The suspension that followed does show that operations can stop at short notice, which is one more reason to leave margin. The dated record, and what happened afterwards, is on the safety record page.

Is there an upside for mantas?

There can be, with conditions attached. Seek Sophie says Manta Point is best from December to March. That is an agency's view. A peer-reviewed study gives partial support, linking rising manta visits in the central region to the north-west monsoon. The difficulty is that the stop you want may be the stop the weather removes. Treat mantas as a possible gain from a wet-season trip, not the reason to accept the risk of one. Nobody can guarantee a sighting, and the manta research page explains what the study can and cannot tell you.

Which dates do the sources disagree on least?

The days after 18 April, though that comes with no assurance. Late November is not a clean edge: Maika Dive includes it, while Come2Indonesia and AirAsia end the dry season in October and Weather Spark counts it as wetter. The days after 18 April fall outside Weather Spark's wetter season, outside Seek Sophie's January to March and inside Maika's window. Early April is less tidy, because rain data still counts it as wet. March is the awkward one: the wind data has eased by the 11th while Seek Sophie still lists the month as a stop. Agreement between sources does not predict the sea on your dates, but it does tell you where the published advice is least contradictory.

How much margin should you leave?

More than you would in the dry months. Seek Sophie suggests a couple of buffer days for rainy-season trips. That is a booking agency's tip and we repeat it as such, but it fits the rest of the evidence: a boat that may be slowed, port authorities who can suspend operations, and a schedule that can change at short notice.

A practical way to build it is to count backward from your flight home. Keep a couple of days between the planned return and that flight, and hold them in plans you can drop, not in a second booked trip. Make sure anything you pay for during those days can be moved or refunded. If your dates cannot stretch that far, a wet-season four-day trip carries more risk of a lost trip, and you may prefer to shift your dates.

What do people ask about Komodo from December to March?

When is the wet season in Komodo National Park?

Weather Spark, using modelled data for Labuan Bajo, puts the wetter season from 11 November to 18 April. Seek Sophie's statement about boats covers only January to March, a shorter window.

Is December good for Komodo?

It depends on your goal. Seek Sophie includes December in its best months for Manta Point, but Weather Spark's windier period begins on 12 December, and Maika Dive's best conditions end in November.

Is January good for Komodo?

It is a harder month to plan. Seek Sophie's view is that most boats stay in from January to March, so confirm a dated departure with the provider before you book flights.

Is February good for Komodo?

It is the wettest month in Weather Spark's data, and yet Liveaboard.com shows a Bajak departure on 21 February 2027. Some boats schedule it, but a listing does not prove that a boat will sail.

Is March good for Komodo?

It is a transition by some measures. Weather Spark's windier period ends on 11 March, though the wetter season runs to 18 April, and Seek Sophie still counts March among the months when most boats stop.

Can a 4 day Komodo trip handle rough seas better?

Hello Flores treats the extra day as weather margin. That is an operator's opinion about schedule and says nothing about how a boat behaves in rough water.

How do I reach the desk?

Give the desk your wet-season dates and how far they can move. It will answer what it can about wet-season departures and cancellation terms, and say when it has no answer. It cannot say whether a boat will sail or what the sea will do. Only a written offer binds anyone, and since a request can become a paid booking, we have a commercial interest in your decision.

Contact the desk on WhatsApp, +62 811-3823-875, or by email.
