Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. Fees and fares change, and they are third-party figures, not our offers.

This Komodo 4D3N FAQ gives short answers to the questions first-timers raise, each with a named source and a link to the page with more depth. A 4D3N trip means four days and three nights, normally sleeping on a boat. Where no reliable answer exists, as with tipping norms, the page says so instead of guessing.

What is a 4D3N trip in Komodo?

It is a four-day, three-night boat trip through Komodo National Park, usually starting from Labuan Bajo. The questions below cover what that means in practice. For the longer explanation behind these short answers, start with the Komodo 4D3N guide.

Where do you sleep?

On the boat, in most cases. Seek Sophie, a booking agency, says the park itself has no hotels, which makes a boat the overnight option inside it; resorts near the park are a separate matter.

Is Labuan Bajo the same place as Komodo Island?

No. On Seek Sophie's estimate, the boat ride from Labuan Bajo takes hours before you even reach the park.

Does every 4D3N leave from Labuan Bajo?

No. Asik Travel, an operator, describes a four-day, one-way boat from Lombok's Kayangan Harbour that ends in Labuan Bajo. The Lombok route page explains how it differs.

What time does it leave and come back?

Hours vary, so ask the provider for both times in writing. Do that before you book a flight, using the Labuan Bajo planning page.

Are meals included?

Labuan Bajo Tourism, an operator, says tours include meals, and Maika Dive lists them on its boats. Read your own offer.

What do you get on day four?

That depends on the operator. Maika Dive's routine closes around Siaba Besar and Manta Point, while the Hello Flores sample closes at Kanawa and Kelor. See published day-by-day plans.

Which six answers matter most before booking?

Is four days too long for Komodo?

For some people it is. Hello Flores, an operator that sells these trips, recommends four days, while The Guy Travel, a traveller blog, thought three days enough and that a further night might bore you.

Do I need to book Komodo National Park ahead?

The operator Samara says yes: you need a SiOra online ticket a day or more before entry, subject to quota and time slots, and Antara reports a park agency limit of 1,000 visitors a day from 1 April 2026.

Can I join a Komodo 4D3N without diving?

On some boats, yes. Maika Dive prices a snorkel-only place on its 4-day trip and routes snorkellers elsewhere during some dives, so ask how the days differ for non-divers.

Are Komodo boats allowed to sail at night?

Not in park waters, according to January 2026 press: Indonesia Expat reports the Labuan Bajo harbourmaster ordering tourist boats to anchor after dark. Exact hours and exemptions are not something we can state.

What is still unknown about Komodo 4D3N?

Tipping norms, exact departure days and the current certification of any named boat all lack a reliable public answer. The list further down this page says what to ask instead.

Is Komodo Island open?

Jakarta Globe reported in August 2026, after the Flores earthquake, that sailing access had reopened and activities had resumed at sites including Loh Liang and Padar. Check the current position with a provider before you commit.

Who should think twice about four days?

Anyone unsure about nights at sea or with little interest in diving should weigh the third night honestly. The questions here help with that.

Should I spend 3 or 4 days in Komodo?

Sellers and travellers disagree. The comparison on what the extra day adds shows what changes stop by stop, and the three, four or five days guide adds the longer option.

Which stops does the extra day buy?

That varies by boat. Maika Dive says its longer trip gains Castle Rock and Crystal Rock over its shorter one, a statement about its own route only.

Is Komodo suitable for older travellers or weak swimmers?

No published standard sets a safe fitness or swimming level. Describe the group to the provider and ask for a written answer about the boat, the tenders and each activity.

How difficult are the hikes?

Figures for the Padar climb's time, steps or difficulty are unreliable, so this page prints none. Ask the provider in writing what it expects of your group, before you pay.

What should you sort out before you pay?

Three things: the park ticket, what the boat price leaves out, and your passport.

How far ahead should I book the boat?

A lead time for a 4D3N is not published, in peak months or otherwise. Book only once you hold a written offer and have compared the dates with your flights.

Where do I check the fees?

Two figures sit in the price table on this page: the reported visitor rate and one operator's published range, each with its source. The full list is on the fares, tickets and extras page.

Are park fees inside the boat price?

Often not, but sources differ. Seek Sophie says they are generally excluded and cash is needed, though its three-day guide says many of its boats now include them. A dated personal report from The Guy Travel says fees were left out of its package, and Come2Indonesia leaves park and whale shark fees out of its Lombok boat price.

Do I pay park fees in cash or in advance?

Accounts differ. Maika Dive says its trip fees are settled separately, in cash on the day, while Neptune Liveaboards, another operator, describes licensed operators registering guests ahead with passport details, so ask how your boat handles it.

What about my passport?

The UK government says passports need at least 6 months of validity and 2 blank pages. Other nationalities should check with their own government.

What should you know about the sea and the boat?

Conditions change quickly and nobody can guarantee them. The detail sits on separate pages.

How rough does the sea get?

UK government advice warns of danger on Indonesian boats, of fast-changing seas and of uneven safety standards. Nothing published measures the sea itself. Rain and wind by quarter are on the seasons page.

Is a boat trip safe?

Nobody can promise that. The dated record of recent sinkings and a checklist are on the page on what the record shows.

Are child life jackets available?

Do not assume so. UK government advice notes that child sizes may be unavailable, so ask before you pay and look at them yourself before you board.

Will I see manta rays?

Nobody can promise that. The manta research page explains what the peer-reviewed study shows and what it cannot tell you about one trip.

Where is the night sailing rule explained?

On the page on what the ban changes for a four-day plan, which also says what remains unclear.

Can you rely on one stop being reached?

No. Maika Dive says its captain may change sites when current or wind is strong. The routes page explains how direction gets decided.

What should divers and snorkellers ask?

Ask whether the plan differs by activity, because on some boats it does.

Can beginners handle the currents?

Maika Dive labels Castle Rock and Crystal Rock as high-current sites for advanced drift diving. We have seen no certification rule from an authority for them, so ask the operator what it requires before you pay.

Where can I read more?

Divers should start with the dives, currents and levels page. Non-divers should read the stops and caveats for snorkellers.

Which published prices did we check?

Official fees and public third-party listings, each with its source and the month we checked it. These are not our prices or offers. Fees and fares change, and sources sometimes disagree, so check the source before you rely on a figure.

What can this Komodo 4D3N FAQ not answer reliably?

These topics come up often, and we prefer a plain gap to a confident guess:

  • Tipping norms. No reliable source covers them. Ask the provider what is customary on that boat.
  • Exact departure days. These vary by boat and season, so ask for dated departures.
  • Current certification of a named boat. This guide rates no boats, and no public register is known to us. Use the checklist on the safety page.
  • Signal, WiFi and power. Listings vary, and a listing's claim is only that listing's claim.
  • Seasickness. Nothing here is medical advice. Ask a doctor before you travel.
