Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. Fees and fares change, and they are third-party figures, not our offers.

A Padar sunrise on a 4 day trip appears on some published plans, not all. Hello Flores names a sunrise stop on day 2, while Maika Dive lists Padar hiking on day 3 without saying sunrise. Sources disagree on crowds: Seek Sophie calls dawn a little less crowded and sunset quieter still, while one travel blog found it the one crowded moment of its trip.

Why do boats plan a Padar sunrise on a 4-day trip?

Padar is on all three published four-day plans compared below, and sleeping aboard is what makes dawn possible. Seek Sophie, a booking agency, says overnight boats can reach Padar for sunrise. Padar is one stop among many in a Komodo 4 days 3 nights plan, and the main guide shows the whole shape of the trip.

The island itself explains the appeal. It lies between Komodo and Rinca and is the third-largest island in the park, according to Wikipedia, which describes four deep bays with beaches of varying colours. UNESCO counts Padar with Rinca and Komodo as the three major islands of the park, all volcanic.

What the plans actually say about Padar varies more than the marketing suggests. Sites overlap across operators, but the order changes, and only one of the plans below uses the word sunrise.

Why do boats plan a Padar sunrise on a 4-day trip?
OperatorWhere Padar sits on its planWhat surrounds it
Hello Flores (sample plan)Day 2, Padar sunrisePink Beach and dragons the same day
Maika DiveDay 3, Padar hiking; divers also get a Padar night dive on day 2Komodo Island trekking, Pink Beach and Mawan on day 3
Komodo Boat TourOn the route, with no day shown in its summaryKelor, Manjarite, Kalong, Pink Beach, Komodo, Taka Makassar, Manta Point, Kanawa or Sebayur

So a plan listing Padar may not mean a dawn landing. If sunrise is the reason you are booking, ask the seller to write down the planned time on the island and what could change it. You can compare the fuller plans on our Komodo 4D3N itinerary page. How a boat positions itself overnight under the early 2026 harbour rules is a separate matter, covered on our page about the Komodo night sailing ban.

Is sunrise less crowded?

Here the sources pull apart. Seek Sophie says sunrise is a little less crowded and suggests sunset if you want fewer people. A Passion and a Passport, a travel blog, found the sunrise trek up Padar the one crowded moment of its whole trip. Neither gives a head count, and one is a booking agency's tip while the other is one person's report on one morning.

Both can be true at once. Sunrise may be quieter than the middle of a busy morning and still be the fullest moment a traveller meets on an otherwise spacious boat trip. What you should not expect is an empty ridge at dawn, and nobody can honestly promise you one.

Timing around the calendar helps more than choosing the hour. Seek Sophie also advises avoiding local holidays, saying queues form on Padar then. Our page on Komodo peak season covers the busier months in more detail. Given the choice, these are the questions that shape your experience:

  • Is the Padar stop at sunrise or sunset on this boat, and can it change on the day?
  • Do your dates fall on an Indonesian holiday?
  • If the sunrise landing is lost, does the plan offer sunset or another pass?

Does Padar have its own ticket?

According to Neptune Liveaboards, an operator, the Padar viewpoint climb is now covered by the daily entry ticket, with no separate charge. This page's price table carries the reported foreign visitor ticket, which is charged per day. Ask your boat how it handles that ticket, since practice differs between operators.

You will meet older and larger figures online. Samara, another operator, says a far bigger Komodo and Padar contribution, proposed by the province in 2022, was cancelled. A high Padar number on an old page may come from that abandoned plan, so check the date on anything you read.

Is Padar affected by the visitor cap?

Yes, by name. As RRI reports, the forestry minister named Padar along with Rinca, Komodo and 23 dive locations as the focus of the quota. Padar also has by far the smallest carrying capacity of the three in the park agency's figures carried by Antara: 17,885, against 44,165 for Rinca and 187,245 for Komodo. That puts Padar at under a tenth of Komodo's number.

None of these reports says how the daily cap divides between islands or how many people may stand on Padar at a given hour. Treat the small number as a reason to take registration seriously, and ask your provider to confirm that your Padar day is covered. Registration, passport details and date locks are set out on our page about the Komodo 1,000 visitor limit.

Are there dragons on Padar?

Do not plan on it. Dragons were once thought to have gone from Padar, and in 2004 a survey body reported at least 12, including a hatchling, according to Wikipedia. That is an old count and it does not make Padar a dragon stop. Published plans look elsewhere for that: Maika Dive pairs Padar with Komodo Island trekking, and the Hello Flores sample has Padar at dawn with dragons later the same day.

What should you know about the hike and the water around it?

This guide prints no hike time, step count or difficulty rating for Padar, because none is reliably published. The same goes for fitness requirements. Figures you read elsewhere may be accurate or may be one person's memory. If a knee, heart or heat problem would change your decision, put it to the boat in writing before you pay, and ask a doctor where it matters. General packing is on our page about what to pack for a Komodo boat trip.

The strait beside the island has its own recent history: Indonesia's tourism ministry says KM Putri Sakinah sank there on 26 December 2025. The conflicting accounts of why are set out on is a Komodo boat trip safe.

After the August 2026 earthquake, Jakarta Globe reported that month that activities had resumed at Padar, and that report has aged. See our page on Komodo after the 2026 earthquake before you rely on it.

What else do people ask about Padar at dawn?

How crowded is Padar at sunrise?

Sources disagree and none gives a count. Seek Sophie calls dawn a little less crowded, while one travel blog found it the single crowded moment of its trip. Seek Sophie also warns of queues on local holidays.

Is sunset at Padar less crowded?

Seek Sophie, a booking agency, suggests sunset for fewer people. That is one seller's tip with no figures behind it. Whether you get a sunset stop at all depends on the boat, so ask before you choose on that basis.

How long is the Padar Island hike?

We give no time because no reliable figure supports one. Published plans simply list Padar hiking or a Padar sunrise. Ask your provider how long the boat allows on the island and how the walk is paced.

Is the Padar hike difficult?

This guide does not call it easy or hard. If your fitness or a medical condition matters, ask the provider in writing and take medical advice where you need it.

Do I need hiking shoes for Padar?

No footwear rule for Padar is published. Ask your boat what guests normally wear for the climb and whether landing means wet feet, and bring something you already walk in comfortably.

Does a 4-day trip always include Padar?

All three published four-day plans compared here include it, but those are examples and not a rule. Weather, permits or a seller's own route can change a stop, so ask to see Padar named on the plan you are buying.

Which published prices did we check?

Official fees and public third-party listings, each with its source and the month we checked it. These are not our prices or offers. Fees and fares change, and sources sometimes disagree, so check the source before you rely on a figure.

How do I reach the desk?

Ask the desk which boats publish a dawn stop at Padar for your dates, and it can ask providers. No landing time, ticket or date is promised on this page. Because a request can become a paid booking we have a commercial interest, and you are committed to nothing until you accept a written offer showing the price, any fee and the contracting company.
